Silver and stone artistry. The gem-grade Morenci turquoise found in Arizona is random in shape. A close look at each squash blossom set reveals that the silver bars that form the settings vary in length and diameter. Each bar terminates with a spoke flower head, hammer-formed from silver raindrops.
Twisted silver rope frames the shadow box setting. The two rows of six blossoms are spaced at four silver beads apart. They are deeply dimpled outward protrusions, the hallmark of hand forming on a bench.
Strung on a silver fox tail, the bottom eight stones, Naja blossoms flow on a pair of silver bars.
What constitutes a great squash necklace? The stones, setting, and beads.
The careful gathering of the Morenci stones mostly shows nice iron pyrite (fool's gold), with blue/greenish, and some with spider matrix. There are no stamped/engraved marks. But written on the Naja is Muncie Yazzie, Navajo.
